The Natalie & Alice Fish Story

We are the Fishes. In 2011 two of our five children; Natalie and Alice were diagnosed with a rare gene disfunction called Leaky SCID (Severe Combined Immune Deficiency). Their condition is so rare that only two cases are reported in the U.S. each year. Both girls have endured much, and have spent most of their young lives in and out of hospitals due to common illnesess a healthy immune system would overcome. The required treatment for our girls is a bone marrow transplant.
Although the new marrow could mean a normal life for them, it will be a long and arduous road. This blog is to share our experience as parents and the courage of our children.

KUTV News Story & Video

In case any of you missed it, here is the story that KUTV ran tonight on the 10 PM news on the girls and a link to their website article.  Looks like they too have posted a rather small video, but mine should be easier to watch and is in HD (if you select HD).  :-)

  2. Oh you guys! Lisy, you talking about a mother trying to prepare for something like this....while chemo was not on our list, I am so with you on this one sister! There is no way to prepare! You think you are ready, and then you think you are ready, and then you think you are ready...and then you are not! There is no way to prepare. When you pray for an answer and for help and the answer is a difficult path, while you know whatever is coming is what is supposed to and has to happen, it doesn't take away the anxiety! You are totally right to remind yourself that faith and fear cannot exist together. That knowledge will get you through so much!

My advice would be to keep an eternal perspective. Our lives have such purpose. The temporal needs will be met. The Lord will see to it. There is no question! Even when it feels hard or even impossible, He is ALWAYS there and "this too shall pass". Believe me, all of this will be a memory before you know it. The nurses used to tell me that all the time, I didn't believe them, but they were totally right. Make sure you are writing this down! It helps process and it is always amazing to look back on it!

So, the reason my comment is on this post is because I wanted to suggest that people go to www.google.com/reader they can log in with their google account and click on "Add subscription" and enter your blog address. This will update them everytime you post. It is the best way to get around the 10 only thing with blogger.

Thanks for keeping us posted sister! Lots of love and prayers coming your way!

  3. Wow Natalie, you are famous! I wanted you to know that I hung the Christmas tree picture you made for me in the living room and put a picture of you right next to it. Both pictures are beautiful! Everytime I pass by them I say another prayer for you. My kids said they do it too! That's alot of prayers! I miss you so much and can't wait until I can come and visit you. Keep up the good work!
    I love you- Sister Strong
