The Natalie & Alice Fish Story

We are the Fishes. In 2011 two of our five children; Natalie and Alice were diagnosed with a rare gene disfunction called Leaky SCID (Severe Combined Immune Deficiency). Their condition is so rare that only two cases are reported in the U.S. each year. Both girls have endured much, and have spent most of their young lives in and out of hospitals due to common illnesess a healthy immune system would overcome. The required treatment for our girls is a bone marrow transplant.
Although the new marrow could mean a normal life for them, it will be a long and arduous road. This blog is to share our experience as parents and the courage of our children.

Kids Exercising

This morning Lisy and I got the urge to exercise....not much came of it but the kids got into it. However Blair and Alice had enough after a short amount of time...just like their Dad.

Alice is gaining more strength and was in the mood to show us how well she could walk. It was cute when she showed us how she can run too....Lisy got it on video.

Throughout the day, I reflected on the feelings of gratefulness I have for the love and support all of you have given us. I will always pause when I think about how all of you made a life changing event, that could have been "back breaking," into an experience we will no doubt look back upon now as being one of the greatest moments in our lives. Your examples to us have further instilled the desire to be better. We will forever be thankful to your rescue.

  4. Your kids are awesome. I love the sit-ups. I'm pretty sure Natalie and Matthew did more than I could. And Alice runs about as well as I do, too. We can't wait to get to see you again.

  6. I just found your story, bought the cook book & am reading your blog. As a parent, my heart goes out to your family & I pray that relief will come soon. I live with a chronic illness and have been on many of the drugs you talk about. God bless you and your children.
